“Innovation is the unrelenting drive to break the status quo and develop anew where few have dared to go.”

Quote by Steven Jeffes

This is an ongoing animation short project that explores how to visualize the concept of innovation. The story is inspired by a quote from marketing and business turnaround expert Steven Jeffes.

I started this project while taking a class with Jorge R Canedo Estrada, a motion guru, Creative Director, and owner of the motion studio Ordinary Folks, also known as JR. Canest.

Fish swim monotonously together in the same direction. A synchronized blinking originating from their brains indicates they all think alike. The scene is dark with muted blue hues.

A coral exhibits movement that indicates there’s something to explore. It captures the attention of one of the fish, turning its brain-blinking orange. As the fish turns around, two other fish follow suit.

The three fish swim around the coral together, causing it to open up and reveal light.

As they pick up speed, the coral begins to spin, radiating a spectrum of colors.

As the coral slows down, it transforms into a magnificent array of new colors and shapes. These vibrant colors start to spread to the fish.

We see a zoomed-out view that reveals the fish have completely transformed into new colors, and all the corals around them have undergone a change.

As the camera transitions to a full view, we behold a vibrant and lively ocean where the transformation has affected all the fish.

The camera cuts to a close-up as the colorful fish swims toward it, with a coral in the background.

The sequence concludes with the quote by Steven Jeffes
